The Place of Christ in Liturgical Prayer
Jospeh Jungmann
Prayer, the intercourse of man with God, is of its nature not bound by clearly determined forms and methods; there are, rather, in the words of Cassian, ‘as many kinds of prayer as in a soul, or, better, in all souls together, there are different states and moods.’ For in prayer is reflected not only the essence of the immutable God, but still more the behaviour of the creature, which is mutable a thousand ways, according to time and place, ability and lot.
